Walking & Cycling

There is an extensive network of local footpaths and lanes allowing for both short strolls and longer distance walks, for example:

Leg of Mutton (4.4km, 1 - 1.5 hrs)

River Tern (4.9km, 1.5 - 2hrs)

River Tern and Upton Forge (6.8km, 2 - 3 hrs)

River Tern and Upton Magna (5.9km, 2 - 3 hrs)

Shropshire Way to Upton Magna (5.6km, 1.5 - 2.5 hrs)

Haughmond Hill, a local beauty spot overlooking  the county town of Shrewsbury, has several walks and cycle tracks for mountain biking. The caravan site is situated on National Cycle Route 81.

Shrewsbury.  The medieval town of Shrewsbury, birth place of Charles Darwin, is not to be missed.  A busy town, with a Castle, set in the loop of the River Severn has a diverse range of shops, museums, restaurants, a Theatre and cinema.  The town is 5 miles from the site with Park & Ride facilities (SY1 4HA). 

 

Attingham Park, Atcham (National Trust)

Home Farm, Attingham. 3 miles from the site. Working farm with rare breeds.

Telford (10 miles) has a modern shopping centre, recently extended to include the new Southwater development with a lake (TF3 4BX) 

 

Ironbridge 10 miles.  A World Heritage Site.  The birthplace of industry.

The world’s first ironbridge built by Abraham Derby (TF8 7JP).

There are many other museums, including the Coalport China Museum and Enginuity.

 

Bridgnorth 20 miles.  Severn Valley Steam Railway runs from Bridgnorth to Kidderminster, with several stops between, including a view of the Safari Park.  (WV16 5DT) Tel No 01746 764361

Church Stretton and the south Shropshire hills approximately 20 miles

 

Acton Scott Historic Working Farm (as seen on BBC 2 'Victorian Farm) is south from Shrewsbury on A49.

 

The British Ironwork Centre, Oswestry, north west of Shrewsbury on A5.

 

The Welsh coast is one and half hours away.
